The Star

hope, inspiration, healing

The Star is the card of hope and faith. Healing, finding inspiration, and learning to trust life again after a hard time.

The image and its symbolism

Card XVII shows a naked woman kneeling by a pool under a clear sky. One knee rests on the ground and one foot on the water. With one jug she pours water into the pool, and with the other she pours it onto the land, where it splits into five small streams. Above her shines a large yellow eight-pointed star surrounded by seven smaller white stars, and in the background a bird perches in a tree.

She's naked because she has nothing left to hide. After the storm of The Tower, what remains is the plain truth. The water she returns to the pool renews the emotions, and the water falling on the land is hope becoming something concrete. The five streams are often linked to the five senses. The big star is guidance and inspiration, and the bird in the tree is associated with wisdom and thoughts that rise higher.

What The Star means

Upright, The Star is a breather. That morning when you wake up and, for the first time in weeks, there's no knot in your stomach. Not everything is solved, but you have the strength to look ahead with confidence again.

It's also the card of inspiration. Ideas start flowing again, you feel like creating, and you sense you're on the right track. If you've been through a loss or a rough patch, the healing has already begun. You notice it in small things, like putting music on again or making plans without fear.

The Star in love

Renewed hope, sincere love, or old wounds that finally close. A very good sign.

If you're in a relationship

The relationship enters a calmer stage, with trust and tenderness. If you've come out of a crisis, now is the time to heal without blame. Talk about your dreams; sharing what excites you brings you closer.

If you're single

Your heart is opening up again. Someone who inspires you may appear, or you'll simply notice you're no longer carrying old wounds. Go to places where you feel like yourself, because that's where you shine brightest.

If you're thinking about an ex

This is more about healing than getting back together. You can remember that relationship with affection and without bitterness. If you did reconnect, it would come from a calmer, more honest place, without neediness in the way.

At work

Creative projects and recognition. Opportunities you'd given up on come back around.

A good stretch for creative projects, for dusting off an idea you'd shelved, or for showing your work. An opportunity you thought was gone may return, or recognition you didn't expect. Trust what you know how to do and share it.

Money

Your finances start to steady after a tight period. The improvement is gradual and worth protecting. Save a little each month and set something aside for what excites you, because that keeps you going too.

Health and well-being

Hope and a lift in your mood. Look for moments of peace and trust that you're feeling better bit by bit.

As feelings, as a person and as the future

As feelings

What they feel for you is clean and full of hope. They see you as someone who inspires them and brings them peace. They may not show it with big gestures, but with you they feel safe.

As a person

Someone sensitive, generous and a bit of a dreamer, with a calm that rubs off on you. They often have an artistic streak or a very personal way of caring for others. With them around, everything seems a little easier.

As the future

A time of recovery and fresh hope is on its way. What weighs on you now will get lighter if you give it time. Keep trusting, even if you're not there yet.

The Star reversed

Discouragement, little faith in yourself, or hopes that never touch the ground.

Reversed, The Star is a hope that has dimmed a little. Tiredness, the feeling that nothing will ever change, or not much faith in what you're capable of. It can also mean pinning all your hopes on something unrealistic and then being let down.

In love, it's fear of getting your hopes up again, or idealizing someone who doesn't feel the same. At work, a lack of motivation or the sense that nobody sees your talent. The star is still in the sky even if there are clouds right now. Find one small thing that gives you back some hope.

As a yes or no answer

Yes

Yes, with hope. The Star arrives after the storm to tell you the worst is behind you. It's going to work out.
