How to read your Mercury retrograde spread

Mercury retrograde dates in 2027

They fall on the same days across the United States, Latin America and Europe. In brackets, the shadow: the weeks before and after when Mercury crosses the same degrees and you already feel it.

• February 9 to March 3, from Pisces back into Aquarius (shadow January 25 to March 23). Feelings and ideas get mixed up: misunderstandings with friends and groups, and an urge to go back to something you dropped.
• June 10 to July 4, from Cancer back into Gemini (shadow May 26 to July 19). It touches home and family: overdue talks, housing paperwork and crossed messages. Plan extra time for Fourth of July travel.
• October 7 to 28, from Scorpio back into Libra (shadow September 17 to November 13). The most intense one for couples: jealousy, secrets coming out and exes reappearing.

What Mercury retrograde means

Mercury doesn’t really move backward. Seen from Earth, for about three weeks it looks like it is going back across the sky, because the two planets travel at different speeds. It happens three or four times a year.

In astrology, Mercury rules communication, short trips, paperwork and technology. When it is retrograde, everything it rules slows down or repeats. It is not a good time to start from scratch, but it is a great time to review, finish and pick things back up.

What to do and what to avoid

• Reread before you hit send. Texts, emails and contracts. Most Mercury retrograde mix-ups are misunderstandings.
• If you have to sign, sign, but read the fine print and leave room for changes. What gets signed in these weeks often needs a second look later.
• Back up your phone and laptop before it starts, and don’t install big updates on day one.
• Leave early if you travel. Delays and schedule mix-ups are the classic.
• Pick things back up. The project you left halfway, the call you owe, the clutter you’ve been putting off for months.
• Watch out for exes. If someone from the past texts, listen, but don’t decide anything until Mercury moves forward again.

The signs that feel it most in 2027

Mostly the signs it moves through: Pisces and Aquarius in February, Cancer and Gemini in June, and Scorpio and Libra in October. Gemini and Virgo, ruled by Mercury, feel all three.
