XXIThe WorldHow to read your new moon spread
The first card is what to let go of with the moon that is ending. The second is your starting point, how you are right now. The third is what can grow over the next four weeks if you give it attention: treat it as your intention for the month.
Ideally, draw it on the day of the new moon or within the next two days, and reread it at the full moon, halfway through the cycle, to see how it is going.

What the new moon is and why people make wishes
The new moon is when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun and can’t be seen from here. It is the start of the lunar cycle: from that day on it grows until the full moon, about two weeks later.
That is why it is linked to beginnings, and where the idea of new moon wishes comes from: what you plant when the moon is empty grows with it. Tradition aside, it is a good excuse to stop once a month and decide where you want to put your energy.
A new moon tarot ritual
You don’t need anything special. Just some quiet time, a piece of paper and this spread.
- Draw the spread on the day of the new moon or within the next two days, with a specific question.
- Write three intentions in the present tense, as if they were already happening: “I sleep eight hours”, “I finish the project”. Let the third card help you choose them.
- Release the first card. On another line, write what you are leaving behind this month, then cross it out.
- Keep the paper and reread it at the full moon. At the next new moon, see what came true and start again.
The solar eclipses of 2027
Two of 2027’s new moons are also solar eclipses, and in astrology they work like new moons with extra force, the kind that really change something. On February 6, in Aquarius, there is an annular eclipse that shows as a ring of fire from southern South America.
On August 2, in Leo, comes the big total eclipse of the year, darkening the sky over southern Spain, North Africa and Egypt. If you go to see it, always use certified eclipse glasses. Regular sunglasses are not enough.
For every month of the year, your sign has its card in the monthly horoscope, and the whole year is in the 2027 tarot.
Frequently asked questions
How many new moons are there in 2027?
Thirteen. The first is on January 7 and the last on December 27, both in Capricorn.
When is the best time for a new moon spread?
On the day of the new moon or within the next two days, when the Moon starts to show again. It is the time to plant intentions.
What is the difference between a new moon and a full moon?
The new moon is the start of the cycle, for beginning and wishing. The full moon comes about two weeks later at the peak of the light, for harvesting, giving thanks and letting go.
Why does the date change depending on where I live?
The new moon happens at the same instant everywhere, but the local time is different. If it happens late at night on the East Coast, it may already be the next day in Europe.
Is it free?
Yes, always. No sign-up, no personal data, and your question is only stored in your browser.
