How to read your New Year spread

The first card is about 2026: what you lived through and what you can finally let go of, because you don’t have to carry all of it into the new year. The second is your starting point, how you really arrive at the last night of the year, with what works for you and what weighs you down. The third looks ahead and shows the tone of the coming months if you keep going the way you are.

If a hard card lands in the first spot, good, that is what stays behind. If it lands in the third, it is not a sentence, it is a heads-up so you can prepare. Click any card’s name to read its full meaning.

New Year’s Eve rituals and what they mean

Almost every end-of-year ritual says the same thing with different gestures: close what weighs on you and make room for what is coming. They don’t work by magic. They work because they make you stop for a moment and think about what you want. Here are the classics.

  • Writing your resolutions. Not a long list you will drop by February. Pick three, write them by hand and keep the paper somewhere you will see it.
  • The burning bowl. Write what you want to release from 2026 on a slip of paper and burn it safely in a bowl before midnight. On another slip, write what you want for 2027 and keep it until next December.
  • Twelve grapes at midnight. A Spanish and Latin American custom that has caught on everywhere: one grape for each stroke of midnight and for each month. Make a different wish with each one.
  • Black-eyed peas and greens. The Southern New Year’s Day plate. The peas are for luck and the greens are for money, and cornbread for gold if you want the full set.
  • Opening the door at midnight. Open the front door to let the old year out and the new one in. Some people open the back door first, then the front.
  • The midnight kiss. Kissing someone you love at midnight is said to keep that love close all year. A hug counts too.

A tarot ritual for the last night of the year

If you want something quieter than the countdown, try this before dinner. Find some time alone, leave your phone in another room and draw the spread on this page with a question in mind. Write the three cards down on a piece of paper.

Next to the first, write a sentence that starts with “In 2026 I leave behind…”. Next to the third, one that starts with “In 2027 I want…”. Fold the paper and keep it in your wallet. Open it in December and see what came true.

Your 2027 month by month

This spread gives you the tone of the turn of the year. If you want to go further, the 2027 tarot draws thirteen cards, one for the year and one for each month, and stays saved in your browser until December so you can come back every month. In the 2027 horoscope you will find your sign’s card and what each season brings.

And for every day, each sign has its card in the daily horoscope, the weekly and the monthly.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time for a New Year tarot spread?

On the night of December 31 or on January 1, while the change of year is still fresh. Any day in December or January when you feel a chapter closing works too. What matters is doing it calmly.

Can I do it more than once?

On different topics, yes, for example one for love and one for work. If you ask the same question on the same day, you will get the same cards, because the first reading usually has the most to tell you.

How is it different from the 2027 tarot?

This spread is three cards about moving from one year to the next. The 2027 tarot is longer, thirteen cards with one for each month, and it stays saved so you can check it all year.

Which New Year’s Eve ritual is best?

The one that makes you really think about what you want. Resolutions, the burning bowl or a tarot spread are all ways of stopping for a moment. None of them decides your year for you, but they all help you start it with intention.

Is it free?

Yes, always. No sign-up, no personal data, and your question is only stored in your browser.
